CARBON 2

CARBON is a new short film series that imagines ecological collapse experienced through various perspectives. CARBON 2, second in the series, operates from a "bird's eye" view. Inspired by Len Lye’s early cinematic techniques of filmic collage, the two and a half minute film presents both a layered land and soundscape. The film begins hovering over a water mass featuring my Slipstream and WIDOW sculptures (the symbolically charred spawn of the original Slipstream installations), that barely cloaks a series of data centers underwater, and a broken neon sign exhorting viewers to “accept all permissions.” Feathers fall like snow as we advance toward a snow globe on shore. Fireflies, renatured barns and other symbols of ecological precarity and resilience appear and disappear. Randomly patterned, algorithmic noise appears throughout and culminates in a final moment of global consumption.
