Frequencies, a new series of analog drawings and generative videos, emerged from research I completed during my fellowship at the Weibel Institute in Vienna, and from years of grappling with different forms of cognition and perception. I further developed the work during my LACMA-sponsored residency at 18th St Arts Center in Santa Monica, CA. I was deeply inspired by Laura Tripaldi's Parallel Minds, in which she outlined the properties of spider webs: soft, flexible, at once liquid and solid, resilient sensory structures of material intelligence. The web functions as part of the spider's cognitive system, intelligence externalized into matter beyond the body. As an artist, I know and metabolize the world through drawing, my own form of externalized cognition. I have also been researching frequencies that fall outside human sensory capacity, including infrasound and ultrasound. The lines in this series evoke sound waves, EKGs, and mountains. The biomorphic forms serve as an interface between different frequencies.
