WIDOWS also appear (along with their Slipstream forbears) as subjects in my new video series, CARBON. I began these before the 2025 LA fires, and as I made them, I realized they were symbols of ecological grief and rebirth. Made of graphite powder, graphite paint, paper, metallic paper, holographic particles, and printed silk, each one depicts entangled human, more-than-human, machine, and botanical life. Hybridity is the beating heart of the changeling artworks, inviting conversations about what is real, what is alive, and what we see and feel when digital/analog boundaries are blurred. These artworks gesture towards the organic, as simulated fictions of botanical/animal forms mediated (when rematerialized in video or stills) by machines. Each offers a familiar referent with no natural analog.
