WIDOWS also appear (along with their Slipstream forbears) as subjects in my new video series, CARBON. The artistic lineage of the video stories begins with pre-cinematic cave painting, the earliest record we have of using drawing and light to tell stories. Today, the videos again reveal the analog technology of drawing and drawing tools, blurring its origins with pixels and light. Each one depicts entangled human, the more-than-human, machine, and botanical life. Hybridity is the beating heart of the changeling artworks, inviting conversations about what is real, what is alive, and what we see and feel when digital/analog boundaries are blurred. These artworks gesture towards the organic, as simulated fictions of botanical/animal forms mediated (when rematerialized in video or stills) by machines. Each offers a familiar referent with no natural analog.
